How Condi Got Her Groove Back

condirice.jpg After eight years spent conspiring with President Bush to bring about the destruction of the U.S., Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has recently come-out in public and shown us that she’s got some sense by heaping praise on President-elect Obama, and members of his cabinet. In a November 5th press conference, a visibly emotional Rice described Barack Obama’s presidential win as “an exercise in American democracy, of which Americans across the political spectrum are justifiably proud.”

She then added: “As an African-American, I’m especially proud.”  Oh my God! Condoleezza has gone and admitted that she’s black!  After staying hush-hush while Bush and Co. botched the Hurricane Katrina disaster, we weren’t quite sure. What’s more, she’s got emotions, too!

Then, appearing today on “This Week,” Rice praised Obama again, adding a sprinkling of love for new Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.  “President-elect Obama has made his choice and he’s made a terrific choice,”  Rice said, “Hillary Clinton is someone of intelligence and she’ll do a great job. She also has what’s most important to be Secretary of State, and that is that you love this country and you represent it from the basic of faith in its values, and I know that she will do that.”

This is the softer side of Rice.  After years of being kept under wraps by the Bush administration and not really knowing what she was about—other than being a staunch supporter of Bush’s policies—it’s refreshing to get a sense of how intelligent and diplomatic Rice can be, which is definitely better than seeing her try to dodge bullets while being interrogated about 9/11 during her Senate confirmation.  Perhaps knowing she is on her way out of the White House has taken the edge off and has made her more comfortable with being herself and sharing what she really thinks. If only she had given us a taste a wee bit earlier.
