A Market, a Tea Party, and a Cupcake

This weekend it was just me, myself, and I hanging out at the apartment. Jacob was off to Dallas for a wedding, and I was stuck here by my lonesome. I was honestly dreading his leaving as I was bored to tears the last time he was out of town. Although, to my surprise, this weekend turned out to be a rather enjoyable one, and it’s not over yet!

Yesterday was one of those days where I could just do what I wanted to do. I had nowhere to be, no deadlines to meet. It was just me and a sunny day. I slept it, made a nice lunch, was able to blog a little, and set out to enjoy the first day of fall. I had read the night before about a gourmet food market that sounded right up my alley. Waking up to a sunny day, a market sounded just like the place to be.

The Eat Boutique Fall Market featured small batch food by local boutique food makers. I tasted everything from hard apple cider made with apples picked right here in New England, to freshly made mascaparone cheese, to 100% pure Vermont maple syrup. And yes, that would be straight maple syrup. I had 4 spoons full 🙂 . The food culture in Boston is fantastic. Whether opening a second location, or selling products from home, small businesses seem to be thriving. As often as possible, I try buying local. I did it in Fayetteville, I do it here. I’m a sucker for gourmet food products.  Whether it be a homemade jam or a batch of secret spices, i’m an easy one to sell to. I find well prepared dishes to be works of art.

Following the market I decided to do a bit of exploring. Being in an unfamiliar part of the city was the perfect place for me to be. Having nowhere to be, I set off wandering. I sat by the water and enjoyed a bit of reading, and then made my way to the site of the Boston Tea Party. Having missed the last tour, I poked around the gift shop and read up on this famed event.

From there, after some accidental eavesdropping, I learned that a bakery I’ve been wanting to try was only blocks away. So, I set off for a treat. Talked about everywhere from National Geographic Traveler, to Time Magazine, to Martha Stewart herself, Flour Bakery did not disappoint! I ordered the low-fat vegan chocolate cake, and let me tell you,  there was nothing low-fat about how it tasted.

And that’s just what I did!

Well, a giant bite anyway…

I finished the night off with a nice meal, the remainder of my cake, a big glass of milk, and a date with Titanic. Not a bad way to end a great day.

Happy Sunday!

I love the serendipity of days like these! You never know what’s around the next corner. You remind me that I need to deliberately set aside some time to knock around and just see what happens. Thanks! Marya
